Question: How do I know when to clean out the capture chamber?
Answer: In most conditions, you can run the our sluices for 1.5 - 2 hours before needing a clean-out. There are a couple of indicators that identifies when you need to do a clean-out. Take note of how material is flowing down the transport deck and its rate of passing through the grizzlies and entering the capture chamber. If you see a slowdown in how quickly the material enters the capture chamber (assuming the same feed rate) then you may need to do a clean-out. The other thing you can check is the height of the material in the capture chamber. With good flow conditions, the material in the chamber is typically 1/4” to 3/4” below the height of the chamber’s end plate. If you stick your finger in the opening, you can feel the height of the material. If it is near the same height of the end plate, this would also indicate a clean-out. NOTE: The height of the material in the capture chamber under low flow conditions may be near the height of the end plate. Under low flow conditions, watch the rate of material entering the chamber.
